Language Arts students in the Trenton Public Schools participate in an Independent and Guided Reading Program that incorporates novels and reading selections that are geared to the individual students comfort level in reading. This is identified by individual conferencing and a placement tool and is then monitored to allow for gainful progress.
Novel Resouces in all classroom begin with the 100 Book Challange Program which provdes selections in all genres. Standard,Classics and Contempory titles are included. Secondly ,the district also provides Guided Reading experiences with the Scholastic Guided Reading Program supported by trained classroom teachers. Many teachers also have classroom libraries with a number of books they have collected personally. These books are also leveled according to the system approved by the district. Lastly, of course the children can use the school library and personal books for independent reading. Upon request the classroom teacher can advise the student of the level of the chosen book for record keeping.
